Are You A Blogging Addict? (Part 3)

Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Opinion, Tips, Writing

So you obsess over your subscriber count (Oh no! I only have 89 subscribers! My target is 100!). And you can’t seem to stop checking your blog stats (It’s already been 45 minutes since I last checked. I should check again – a lot can happen in 45 minutes, you know!). What else can be indicators that you might – just might – be a blogging addict?

How much time do you spend on social media sites?
Digg, Stumble Upon, and the like. How often do you “push” your posts on these sites? Do you find yourself spending hours and hours browsing social media sites “just for fun?” Then you just might be overdoing it. Do you post each and every one of your blog entries on as many social media sites as you can? Then you just might be overdoing it.

Again, as helpful and as efficient social media sites are – I am quite fond of them, actually – the bottom line is you offering GREAT content. Ten hours of browsing social media sites is not a guarantee that you will get more traffic. Posting even your crappy entries (yes we all have them!) on social media sites will probably do more harm than good.

So what is our fix for this habit? Self-discipline! Set aside a specific amount of time per day that you will spend on chasing social media traffic. You can also do so much chasing after all. Also, choose your best work – you know which ones these are. Then send these posts to social media sites.

Well you just hit me the first line in this post. I-am-a-blog-stats-addict. That is why my blogs never take off and I keep on creating new things and failing all the time. This time however I noticed my problem and working to solve it. Thanks for the reminder though.
