Why You Are Losing Ground in Search Results Pages
Posted by Jimmy as Marketing and Search Optimization, Spam, Tips As promised in my post Reasons for Sudden Plunge in Blog Traffic I will be discussing the possible reasons for a sudden drop in search rank. I already wrote about this in the past but concentrated on FALSE ALARMS. However, what do you do when you find out that your search rank has indeed dropped? Just like finding out the reason for a decrease in traffic, the first thing you need to do is find out WHY. Major reasons could be: 1. spam - If you are a splog then you have most likely been discovered. However, if your blog ...Comments Off
Resizing Images: Tips and Tools
Posted by Jimmy as Blogging Tools, Tips When adding images to your blog posts make sure that you have resized them to a size that is not only aesthetically appealing but also SEO friendly. Resizing images is not a hard task, however, when resizing images simply recalculating the ratio may not be a good idea especially if the new image size is a lot larger than the original one. The reason for this is that the image gets pixelized and you end up with a grainy image that just isn't nice to look at. If you want to resize images beyond changing the dimensions here are some ...Comments Off
Microblogging or Good Old Traditional Blogs
Posted by Jimmy as Blogging Tools, Syndication The rise of Twitter, the most popular microblogging site nowadays, has of course helped microblogging itself come a long way - from mere short posts to get in touch businesses and organizations has found ways and is continuing to find ways to make use of and benefit from microblogging. But what is microblogging and how does it differ from good old traditional blogging? Wikipedia defines microblogging as “a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send BRIEF text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a ...Comments (3)
Upping Your Blog’s Loading Time
Posted by Jimmy as Hosting, Software and Widgets, Tips Wondering why your blog has a slow loading time? A quick and easy way to answer your question would be to speed test your blog. One tool I like to use to do this is Pingdom's Full Page Test. It is a free toll that helps you determine which portion of your website takes a longer time to load. According to Pingdom their Full Page Tests works by... "load[ing] a complete HTML page including all objects (images, CSS, JavaScripts, RSS, Flash and frames/iframes). It mimics the way a page is loaded in a web browser. The load time of all objects ...Comments Off
Get Ready to Ride the (Google) Wave
Posted by Jimmy as Blogging News, Blogging Tools, Software and Widgets Google Wave has not hit the market yet but, from what I’ve seen in the developer preview, once it does you’d better be ready for one huge ride. Dubbed as the “email as it would be had it been invented today instead of forty years ago”, Google Wave is out to revolutionize the way we communicate/collaborate online. A “wave” is both a conversation and a document in one. It’s your email, chat box, online document, developer API, and more all at the same time. Google Wave is so powerful that until it is out (right now it’s still in beta ...Comments Off
“Email To A Friend” Feature
Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Plugins Have you noticed the numerous options that are provided in some blogs after each post? There are many different plug ins that you can install in order to create the “email to a friend” link. One that is easy to use is WP-Email. When you ...Comments Off
Your Blog And Pop-ups
Posted by Jimmy as Opinion, Plugins, Promotion I think that pop-ups are one of the most intrusive and most irritating things that you can encounter when visiting a web site. I simply dislike it when I click on a link to visit a blog or a web site and even before I get to see what the site has to offer, I am already being bombarded with some one sort of advertisement or another. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way but then again, I am also pretty sure that there are a lot of people who disagree. After ...Comments (3)
Make The Most Out Of Your Reading Time
Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Blogging Tools, Community Building, Tips More than writing actual posts for your blog, I bet that you spend a considerable amount of time reading other blogs. This is in fact one good way to get ideas for your posts. Though of course I am not advocating stealing copy, you can always get inspiration and learn lessons from reading other blogs. In fact, that is one of the tips that I mention a lot – do not isolate yourself from the rest of the blogosphere. Anyhow, if you are like me, there might be times when you get too engrossed reading blogs and before ...Comments Off
How To Find Top Blogs In Your Niche
Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Blogging Tools, Monetization, Monetization Features, Tips We talked about the importance of identifying the best blogs in the niche you are targeting in the previous post. To recap, it is important to do so because you can learn a lot from the best blogs. You can check out what they are doing right – and wrong – and learn from those things. You can also do a little bit of promotion on the side by leaving comments in these blogs. In this way, you can make your presence felt in the niche that you are targeting. So how do you actually ...Comments (2)
Post-dated Entries in Blogger
Posted by Guru as Blogging Tools, Tips Post dating blog posts is nothing new to Wordpress users but bloggers who use Blogger will be happy to know that they can now post date their blog entries. The ability to post date entries (or rather lack of ability) has been one of my frustrations about Blogger. I have always used Blogger for my personal blog and one of my pet peeves has always been this and also the fact that I can not put a password to some posts (which means I end up just deleting the draft or simply not publishing it). Anyway here's how you can ...Comments Off

Is Your Blog W3C Compliant?
Last night I checked my personal blog’s code hoping I can proudly display the W3C Validated Button. Since I use Blogger and do not really do anything to clean up the code (beyond adding Alt-tags to the images I embed) I wasn’t surprised at all to find that my blog contained lots of errors – [...]
