Are You A Blogging Addict?

Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Marketing and Search Optimization, Opinion, Tips, Writing I didn’t really want to use the word “addict” as it may have some negative connotation to it. However, I couldn’t really find a more appropriate word for the idea that I want to convey – which is a strong desire to continuously work on one’s blog (and everything else that goes with it). There are concrete signs that one is addicted to blogging – they are not necessarily bad, mind you. Let’s take a look at some of them and see if we are addicted to blogging. Do you obsess over the number of your subscribers? The fact is ...

The First Journalese-English Dictionary

Posted by Jimmy as Opinion, Writing I know, some people think that the words journalist and blogger should never be placed in the same sentence – unless they are being contrasted. Then again, I am not some people, and I do believe that these two groups of people do not have to be necessarily mutually exclusive. In any case, I ran across the first ever Journalese-English Dictionary online, something which aims to point out clichés that tend to be used by journalists. The idea of the author (Graeme) is to make writers aware of how tempting it is to use these words ...

How To Word Sponsored Posts

Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Opinion, Tips, Writing There are so many ways by which to earn money through blogging these days. As such, it is no wonder that so many people are joining the blogging bandwagon – why not, when you can earn dollars for almost no effort at all? Guru posted a couple of entries on How to Avoid Becoming an Ad Spam Blog and I think that we would all benefit from it. The entries made me think more on how a blogger should word his or her sponsored entries in such a way as to retain credibility in the eyes ...

Internet Babel Targets Big Bloggers Over Grammar

Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorials News, Opinion, Tips, Writing How important is proper grammar when it comes to writing blogs? I am sure that you already have an inkling of my position on this matter. I have written several posts on how being a blogger does not excuse anyone from using decent grammar when writing. Nick Sullivan over at Internet Babel and I share the same point of view and he even took it one step further – he singled out some of the biggest bloggers for their bad grammar! Here’s an excerpt: Now, bloggers aren’t necessarily writers but still. They do write. I don’t mind bad ...

Death and Blogging

Posted by Jimmy as Blog Tutorial, Opinion, Writing I don’t consider myself as a particularly morbid person and death does not bother me. However, I haven’t really thought about blogging and death together. Not that they are strange bedfellows but these two topics don’t really naturally come together, right? Well, unless your blog’s main topic is death, of course. I was scanning some blogs earlier and I ran across a post entitled “Death provides lively copy for blogs.” That definitely caught my attention! Glenn Abel, the author of the post, presented an interesting topic for blog posts – death. He says: Death doesn't ...

Blogging IS Writing

Posted by Jaren as Blog Tutorial, Creating a Blog, Opinion, Submissions, Terminology, Tips, Writing Blogging is often taken as informal writing. While this may be true, it does not mean that it is okay for a blogger to disregard writing rules. It’s bad enough that Internet sources are not considered as scholarly, and it’s worse that there are sites that prove it right – because of poorly written articles. As a blogger, you should remember that you do have some responsibility on what you publish online and this is not only about content. If you want to keep a good blogging reputation, better start with the technicalities of writing. When writing your posts, it ...

A Blogger’s Responsibility

Posted by BloggurlNeedzRehab as Community Building, Editorials, Opinion, Tips, Writing One of the greatest things that the Internet has brought to writers is that they had been given the freedom to express themselves, sans the strictures and the censorship that editors can bring them. But there are downsides to this freedom, too. Because anyone can very well say anything to the general public, and a lot of people tend to take everything at face value, the Internet had, at some point, needed some cleanup. While it would definitely take a discerning eye to watch out for truth vs. fiction on the Internet, there are days when I actually want to tear down some sites, because they present misleading and even downright erroneous information. That is why, as a blogger, you have the responsibility to present facts from reputable sources.

What it Takes to be a Passionate Blogger

Posted by Jaren as Blog Tutorial, Opinion, Writing Do you have what it Takes to be a Passionate blogger? Jimmy's post woke me up... on his post he asked these questions... that made me think... How passionate are you about writing for your blogs? Do you wait with anticipation for the time when you have to write your next post? Do you smile like an idiot when you are doing something else and you think of something to write in your blog? Or do you merely go about it like every other mundane task in your life? Does it take you forever to find that breath of inspiration? I love blogging, ...
