A Quick Look at Social Media Marketing

Posted by Guru as Marketing and Search Optimization, Promotion

I have posted several times about the effectiveness of using social media as a marketing tool. Although social media marketing is nothing new I was reminded of how useful it can be after reading Roger Park’s post about the topic on the Yahoo Publisher Network blog.

To summarize the important points of the post I will cite the advantages of using social media marketing as well as some of the strategies listed there. The advantages include garnering more links, traffic, an increase in brand awareness, and increasing the possibility of getting noticed by mainstream media. The strategies suggested include:

• Submitting a how-to article or tip sheet to a “voting” site like Digg and Reddit
• Bookmarking an article on sites like del.icio.us or ma.gnolia
• Uploading and tagging images up on Flickr, Photobucket, etc.
• Uploading videos to Yahoo! Video, iFilm, YouTube, etc.
• Establishing a business profile at a social media web site like MySpace or Facebook
• Developing a widget that lets users spread your content on their own sites

If you have any other social media marketing strategies that you use do leave a comment and share it with us.
