Email Signatures And Blog Promotion

Posted by Jimmy as Opinion, Promotion

One way by which you can promote your blog is by creating a custom email signature which contains your blog’s URL. I have seen this done by a lot of people. More than placing their name at the end of the email, they add information that the people they correspond with may find useful. It could look something like this:

My Name
My position/designation/business
My blog URL

Naturally, when people receive an email from this person, they would see the link at the bottom and more often than not, they would be tempted to click on the link to see what it is all about. I am sure that you have encountered such tactics yourself – if it’s not a blog URL then perhaps another web site.

The question in my mind is whether or not this is an effective way of promoting your blog. On the one hand, it does create more exposure for your blog. This is especially true if you send emails to a lot of people. On the other hand, it is not a guarantee that all the people you send emails to would actually click on your link.

Then again, this is basically the same situation when you use other ways of promoting your blog. You can provide the link and whatever information you deem necessary but you are not always guaranteed that people will click on the link to actually visit your blog.

How about you, what do you think of including your blog link in your email signature? Is this an effective means of promoting your blog?

I think that doing anything that people may notice us is always better than not trying anything. After all, there is no such thing as 100% guarantee that people will visit us. What we can only do is to increase the possibilities.

Yes, I include my blog name on my email signature. But it does not stop there. I include something what I can offer, for example a useful product or service. I don’t actually promote my blog, but rather try to help them. And better yet, inspire them.

Agreed. It’s a win win situation. Although there are times of overkill where your signature can look unruly…name, company, website, contact number, email, blog etc.

I’ve recently started using Exclaimer to centralise the way we manage our email signatures – so far I have been really impressed with this tool – I highly recommend it.
