Where Do You Get Your Inspiration? (Part 3)

Posted by Jimmy as Opinion, Tips, Writing

So far we’ve talked about blogs, magazines, movies, and people around you as sources of inspiration and ideas for your writing. What else can there be? At the risk of sounding cliché-ish (yeah, there is no such word), let me share a couple more with you.

Quotes
I am a sucker for quotes – I am not going to deny this. I put various quotes in my social networking profiles, the status in my IMs, and the like – all these depend on my mood for the day. Looking at it from this perspective, what quote I use stems from my mood. However, we can turn things around for writing purposes. How about browsing through various quotes and using them as inspiration for writing? Neat, huh? What I normally do is search for quotes using Google. I use keywords such as the person or the topic. Sometimes, if I have a vague idea of what I am looking for, I use the person and topic together.

Take a trip down memory lane
Not your own memory lane but mankind’s memory lane. Take a look at the lives of the giants in history. Read up on their lives, their works, their philosophies – the chances are that you will gather some inspiration. You probably have your own list of people you look up to. If you find yourself stuck when it comes to writing, pay them a visit and refresh your mind.

Before I end this post, try to remember this: Genius is 99 percent perspiration and 1 percent inspiration. Guess who said this? ;)
