Are You Blogging Too Frequently? Part I

Posted by Jimmy as Writing

Giving your readers something new to read is important. It’s important so that your readers will not get bored and will know that your blog is something they should check on regularly. It is also important in SEO because freshness of content is something that search engines look into, especially now that real time search results are getting more popular. However, there is such a thing as blogging too frequently. As in all things, anything that’s too much is not good. So how do you know if you’re overdoing it? How do you figure out just how frequently you should blog?

I won’t be giving you a magic number to adhere to because blogging frequency depends on your type of blog, its theme, your availability to write, your writing style, and your knowledge on the topic. What I can say though is that you know you’re overdoing it if you…

1. Are flooding your subscribers’ feed reader – Unless your blog is a collective blog or a news update blog then posting more than once a day is surely too much and will end up flooding your subscribers’ feeds. You don’t want this to happen because people mostly check their feeds a maximum of once a day and having to many posts will mean that they’ll just skip over the other less important or less exciting ones.

2. Keep rehashing old topics – If you’re running out of stuff to write then you need to take a break and do some reading and learning to have something new to write about. Your new readers might not notice the rehashed posts right away but old ones will and eventually they will lose interest because they aren’t getting anything that is really new. You should only rehash posts if you have something new to add to the same topic.
