Finding Your Niche II

Posted by Jimmy as Community Building, Writing

Last time I said that when finding your niche you should choose one that you are already knowledgeable at and that isn’t that competitive in terms of number of bloggers already writing about that field. Today I will be giving a few more tips on finding your niche.

1. Find out what people want – To be able to determine what people want to know about use search trend tools like Google Trends. There are lots of tools available that can help you determine the keywords and phrases that people search for everyday. The popular keywords can give you an idea of what’s hot and help you filter your ideas (Sometimes it’s harder to choose your blog theme because of too many ideas rather than lack of them!). Just remember the first two tips as your research keywords since most popular search terms will also be in very competitive fields.

2. Make it distinctly yours – Whatever you end up choosing you will definitely have existing competition (unless your theme is something really esoteric). You need to offer something unique in you want to lure their readers into reading your blogs as well. This is the most difficult part. To be frank most people will NOT be able to come up with something very unique so what I really advice is to just make it uniquely yours. Put your stamp on that topic. ALWAYS voice out your opinion and make sure that your personality shows in your writing. You can do this by changing up the format, by your writing style, by adding photos or sketches taken/done by you, or by simply being argumentative of other bloggers’ opinions.
