What’s Your Strange Blogging Habit?

Posted by Jimmy as Opinion, Writing

Each person has his own peculiar habit (or habits, if you wish) and I suppose blogging is not exempt from this. Take for example J. Angelo’s recent feature over at The Blog Herald. He mentioned the late Max Soliven’s habit of writing his work on his typewriter despite the ease and convenience that computers offer. J. Angelo also shared his own habit of not bookmarking sites and instead typing out the URL in the address bar (I have to admit I am the same way).

This got me thinking about my other habits that I might see as normal but might prove to be a bit on the eccentric side for others. Here’s my list.

1. I write my posts on MS Word, copy paste to a text editor, and then cut paste to the browser. Why do I do this? I want to save a copy of my posts in case I might need them in the future so I save them in Word. However, in order to not mess up the formatting when I paste to the browser, I use Notepad first. It may seem like more work for some but it is all part of my workflow. 

2. I usually light a cigarette when I start writing. Often, though, I end up letting it burn when I become too engrossed in writing. As a result, I end up lighting more.

3. Same thing with coffee – I get a huge mug ready and then forget about it. I still drink my cold cup, though!

So we all have these little habits that may not always make sense. What’s in your list?

I do all of my redesigns live, which drives my readers nuts, haha. I also enjoy writing my posts in Pages, so I can PDF them. I also tend to blast itunes while writing, and sing (horribly off key) along with the music. :P

Well, I spend more than 4 hours in a single post. This includes reading it again and again even after it has been published.

I have many posts in my mind, but I try to control myself in posting everyday.

In addition, I always add photos on them and it takes me an hour to choose one even after I already collected them. For me, it is an added attraction and a great satisfaction in my part.

By the way, my bookmarks is full and sometimes I get confused where I will find something. It is just recently that I organize them, but not really.

    Thanks!

Great topic. I write my post as a word document, copy to TextAloud, copy to my blog posting window, re-read in TextAloud and then publish.
I dream of writing a post spontaneously and hitting the send button but it’s not happening. I’m too obsessive about perfection I guess. That’s not to say that I don;t publish posts with errors and then have to edit them, but to multi-step process in the beginning is my own peculiar habit.

I like linking to popular and current videos and images being circulated through the internets. When it’s time for “research,” I’ll find myself lost on youtube and realize it was an hour and a half ago that I was writing my latest entry.

I think it would be better to use Windows Live Writer.. So by doing it it save you a lot of time going to site and pasting etc…

    Just my thought
