Complement Your Writing With Visuals

A picture paints a thousand words – and so the cliché goes. Yet no matter how clichéd that line is, it still hold true today. Think about it, go beyond blogs even. When you attend a lecture or a seminar, which presentation keeps you awake longer – one which shows mostly text and numbers or one which shows charts, pictures, and other visuals as well?

Majority would choose the second scenario. Extend that idea to blogging and your blog entries. No matter how well you write, no matter how witty you are, nothing can compare to actually showing some of your ideas visually.

I chanced upon a new blog the other day – it is a personal blog and surprisingly, I found the whole experience enjoyable. Yes, to be honest, I don’t really read personal blogs of people whom I don’t know. In any case, this blog was an exception. The blogger’s posts were so simple, funny, insightful – I could relate to his thoughts despite the fact that we probably live on the opposite sides of the earth.

Yet what made the blog entries complete were his visuals. For example, he described the most unique gift that he has ever gotten – a mug which was hand painted and signed by a celebrity couple. He did wonderfully with his verbal description – so much so that I wanted to see the mug for myself. He did not disappoint – at the bottom of the post, he showed the gift.

Do you see where I am getting at? Our best written posts will probably become even better if we add visuals to them.
