Search Rank Drop and False Alarms

Posted by Jimmy as SEO Features

Happy Holidays!

What are the chances of someone being concerned about their blog’s search ranking dropping on Christmas Eve? I have no idea but then again if I’m writing about it right now then there’s probably someone somewhere around the world doing SEO at this very minute.

If you have experienced a sudden drop in ranking, both in page rank or actual placement in SERPs, then you know exactly how stressful it can be. However, if this happens to you there are things you can do to turn things around…unless you really are doing black hat and got caught big time. Actually, even then you can start “rebuilding” your site’s “reputation” but it will take a lot of effort that will be better spent building a new site.

One of the first things you should do is to keep a clear head so that you can find out exactly what has gone wrong. Before assuming that your ranking has dropped because of something you did make sure that Google is not just experiencing technical difficulties or made minor adjustments to its algorithm. When that happens lots of blogs and other websites often get affected. To know if this is the case you can read the latest news in forums and Google’s blogs. If there’s really nothing going on at Google that is when you need to get cracking to find out what’s wrong with your site.

Remember panicking won’t do you any good. So keep you calm and enjoy the holidays…even if you search ranking slips or not.
