Some Thoughts on Writing

I have this penchant for searching the Web for quotes and thoughts on different ideas. Today, as I was thinking about what to write for my blog entry, I came across the idea of looking for quotes on writing. Here is a couple of my favorite ones – with side comments, of course.

Writing is 90 percent procrastination: reading magazines, eating cereal out of the box, watching infomercials. It’s a matter of doing everything you can to avoid writing, until it is about four in the morning and you reach the point where you have to write.
(Paul Rudnick)

Now that’s something I can relate to! There are times wherein I simply cannot find the words, the ideas, to come up with something. So I find myself browsing the Net, flipping through my magazines, playing some games, and even cooking lunch! Despite the whole process of putting writing off, I find myself more relaxed and full of ideas when the time comes for me to write. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure this has happened to you too…

I’m not a very good writer, but I’m an excellent rewriter. (James Michener)

This one should be something we all can say. Granted, not all of us are blessed with the best writing talent in the world. Yet if we just take some time to re-read and re-write our work, we probably would have better blog posts. I really should be telling myself this more often…
