Posted by Guru as Marketing and Search Optimization

Plan on profiting from your blog? If you do you first need to realise that what you are doing is actually a form of online marketing. No matter what kind of blog marketing strategy you employ you will actually be marketing something through your blog in order to make a substantial revenue.

That being said make sure you arm yourself with the knowledge needed in order to thrive as an online marketer and one of the best resource, though we love everything digital nowadays are still books. According to a ‘micro survey’ conducted by Joost de Valk (it’s actually just the comments to a question he posed on his blog) here are some of the books every online marketer should read.

Marketing, Blogging and SEO Books (listed in alphabetical order)
All Marketeers are Liars by Seth Godin
Biz Blog Marketing by Doug Williams
Call to Action by Bryan & Jeffrey Eisenberg
Don’t Make me Think by Steve Krug
Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch
SEO an Hour a Day by Grappone and Couzin
Seo Book by Aaron Wall
The Big Red Fez by Seth Godin
The Cluetrain Manifesto by Christopher Locke - read it online for free!
The Long Tail by Chris Anderson.
The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture
by John Battelle
Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams

and a special mention to…

Star Wars

According to the commenter Star Wars is a good book to read because it “is a great example of doing something no one has ever seen before. This is important for any marketer to know if they want to get ahead of the competition.” Truth be told I haven’t read a single Star Wars novel, not even a short story. If he said Star Trek though I’m sure I’ll be a reeeally good at online marketing now.

So there you go from Star Wars to Wikinomics. I’m sure even if you just pick one of these you’ll find that you’ll be learning a lot.
